Please pray for…

The next several prayer updates will be focused on the different levels of the mobilization hub. We would like highlight examples of each level and what God is doing through our African Church Partners. Level one is ‘Awareness Raising’ of missions within African Churches.

Many of you may be familiar with the Perspectives course but not so much with the Kairos course. The vision of Kairos is to see the whole Church mobilized for cross-cultural mission to the world’s least-reached peoples. This is a missions training program and tool that has been used throughout Kenya and beyond. The hope is to encourage the emergence of indigenous mission movements that will result in strategic and effective outreach to least-reached peoples. It has helped to mobilize students, professionals, and local churches in hopes to catalyze a missions movement. The desired outcomes are that the saved get discipled to spiritual maturity and fruitfulness in the fulfilment of the Great Commission, and the unreached are reached with the gospel of Christ.

The Kairos Course is a nine-session, interactive course on world Christian mission, designed to educate, inspire and challenge Christians to active and meaningful participation. It is ideally suited to be conducted in local churches, organizations or with special interest groups such as Christian business people. This program utilizes a variety of adult learning styles including group discussions, short lecture introduction, devotions, video teaching and student participation in specially designed activities.

Kairos looks at the four main areas of mission concern which are the Biblical, Historical, Strategic and Cultural dimensions of mission. There are many different formats and schedules in which this course is offered.

  1. Pray for open doors among churches for the Kairos course.
  2. Pray for the growth and expansion of the ministry of mobilization in East Africa.
  3. Pray that God will raise up Kingdom workers and awaken a missions movement in Kenya!

Kilimo Timilifu

Kilimo Timilifu (KT) is a business and training company that was started recently on the coast of Tanzania. Its purpose is to come alongside churches and help them send out their own missionaries. The south coast is one of the most least-reached and underdeveloped areas of Tanzania.

This work is growing out of some key assumptions for missions in East Africa.

  • The remaining unreached people groups and villages on the coast of Tanzania will be mostly reached by Africans and there is a vibrant Tanzanian church to do this work.
  • Most of these people groups and villages are made up of rural communities that use agriculture for survival, income and identity.
  • Most Tanzanian mission partners cannot be fully supported by their home churches and must be at least, partially self-funded, or bi-vocational.
  • Financial support and African MK education are the two biggest felt needs for Tanzanian mission partners.

One of the biggest hurdles for African mission partners is financial support. KT seeks to address this problem through farming and entrepreneurial training. Through a one year internship program the mission partner family (recommended by their local church), will learn and experience how they can support themselves through farming as business. Following the model of the apostle Paul (tentmaking) many African mission partners must be able to at least partially support themselves and their families.

During this one year of training and hands on experience the missionary will also wrestle with other challenges like outreach among Muslims, church planting methods, and schooling for their children. KT will offer training for the parents so that they can learn to supplement their children’s schooling at home, as well as think through other custom fit options for the education of their children.

There is also a for-profit business side of KT that will use cooperative farming in the Lindi region. This business will do two important things: First, give graduate intern families a solid market for their crops. Second, help to fund the non-profit and training side of KT.

God is raising up many East African harvesters for the harvest fields! Please pray for KT and other innovative ways for the global church to come alongside our African brothers and sisters as we work together to finish the task.
