{"id":161294,"date":"2026-08-30T06:43:40","date_gmt":"2026-08-30T06:43:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aimint.org\/ap\/?p=161294"},"modified":"2026-10-02T06:44:15","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T06:44:15","slug":"karimojong-audio-bibles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aimint.org\/ap\/2026\/08\/30\/karimojong-audio-bibles\/","title":{"rendered":"Hearing God&#8217;s Word in their own language: Audio Bibles for the Karimojong"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">Nita, an AIM missionary serving in Uganda, waited for a very special order to arrive in Kampala. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">An Australian church, Narara Valley Baptist, had taken up an offering, and she was about to receive the precious cargo it had funded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Nita was serving amongst the Karimojong, a marginalised people group marked by poverty and strife. Traditional beliefs remain deeply influential in their culture, often mixed with elements of Christianity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">One reason so many Karimojong remain unreached is their lack of access to God\u2019s Word. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Printed copies of the Bible exist, but low literacy levels limit their impact. Audio recordings were available in the local language, but only of the New Testament.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Recently though, the complete Bible \u2013 Old and New Testaments \u2013 had been recorded.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">In Kampala, the package arrived. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"413\" src=\"https:\/\/aimint.org\/ap\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2026\/03\/Karamoja-Project-Audio-Players-e1789711620596.jpg\" alt=\"Audio devices with recordings of the Bible for the Karamojong in Uganda.\" class=\"wp-image-160403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aimint.org\/ap\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2026\/03\/Karamoja-Project-Audio-Players-e1789711620596.jpg 600w, https:\/\/aimint.org\/ap\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2026\/03\/Karamoja-Project-Audio-Players-e1789711620596-480x270.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 600px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Nita opened it to reveal audio devices containing recordings of the full Bible in Ngakarimojong. Some were large players for groups to use. Some were smaller for individuals, and there were also some SD cards that would fit into mobile phones and speakers.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">As Nita and her team distribute them, people who have never heard the word of God will gather to learn of the One who loves them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">One missionary shares this story:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018A local believer recently gathered a small group under a tree in a remote community where there is no church to listen to Scripture in their own language. Some came curious, others cautious. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">As the story of Zacchaeus played, the group listened intently \u2014 again and again \u2014 discovering new details each time. One young man finally asked, \u201cIs that the voice of God in that little box?\u201d A mother responded with surprise, \u201cDoes God speak Ngakarimojong, then?\u201d Another observes, \u201cJesus went to visit Zacchaeus.
