We\u2019ve had the joys and challenges of raising our family amidst a 99.9% Muslim Unreached People Group (UPG), and we praise the Lord that our children are now grown and walking closely with Him. We\u2019ve added three to our family through marriage, and so far\u2026 two grandchildren!<\/p>\n<p>For over three decades we\u2019ve had the privilege of serving our Lord and striving to obey the great commission in this place \u2013 seeking to make disciples of\u00a0Jesus and teach them to obey everything that our Lord commanded those very first disciples. We\u2019ve found it\u2019s healthy to do regular self-examination of our hearts, motives, strategies, and relationships \u2013 to see where God is pointing us to\u00a0\u2018cut something out\u2019 or add or change how we\u2019re doing something. God\u2019s Word is living and active and very sharp \u2013 and we\u2019re thankful!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Five of the main things we\u2019ve learned in 30+ years of ministry:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jesus is Worthy!<\/strong>\u00a0He deserves our ALL and our BEST!\u00a0We have the privilege\u00a0to serve Him whole-heartedly. It\u2019s not that we have to. No,\u00a0<em>we get to!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Be prepared to change plans!<\/strong>\u00a0That includes the big picture, as well as daily routines. Our ideas are constantly being realigned with God\u2019s leading and provision. And that\u2019s a good thing! We often joke that we plan our daily schedule so that we have something to deviate from! Interruptions are not interruptions! They are God\u2019s PLAN! (Oh, how many times we\u2019ve had to re-learn this one!).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Persistence in prayer and perseverance in ministry<\/strong>\u00a0have been sort of forced on us by the sheer fact that ministry has moved forward very slowly &amp; the people we serve among been very resistant. God continues to give us His joy and satisfaction in the fruit of obedience. We know that God has called us to be just where He\u2019s got us. The results are not up to us; they are in His hands. We\u2019ve redefined\u00a0\u2018success\u2019 in ministry. It\u2019s when we faithfully share the Gospel \u2013 and He\u2019s blessed us with daily opportunities to share Good News from His Word. Deeds alone are not enough \u2013 we have to also share the Gospel with words (the local \u2018heart language\u2019 has proven very important in this.) Words alone are not enough \u2013 they need to be backed up by genuine love, deeds that go together with the message.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We need team!\u00a0<\/strong>As a married couple, we\u2019ve found it invaluable to pour into our\u00a0husband\/wife relationship. We share the joys and struggles. We find ways to do ministry together \u2013 to complement each other \u2013 to laugh together. This is the very most important relationship outside of Jesus, and loving each other well as a couple is the best thing we can do for our family and ministry. We also need other brothers and sisters\/teammates\/others and the National Church who we can share life and ministry goals with, be encouraged by and support and be supported by.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abiding in Jesus is key!<\/strong>\u00a0We need to spend extravagant time with Jesus \u2013 Praying and being in God\u2019s Word. It\u2019s very key to understand and\u00a0utilize God\u2019s Word and the Authority of Jesus Christ, which He has freely given to us today as disciples of His!
