Although Grandpa was not the very first recipient in Canada, he lived the longest of that initial group.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, WHEN ONE BECOMES A CHRISTIAN, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in the new believer. Like a spiritual pacemaker, the indwelling \u2018Spirit of Jesus\u2019 fulfills a prediction made hundreds of years earlier by the Old Testament prophet Joel, that God will give a \u201cheart of flesh and not a heart of stone\u201d (Ezekiel 36:26-27). This same Spirit at the moment of indwelling imparts many \u2018gifts\u2019 \u2013 a rainbow array &#8211; identified in several passages of Scripture \u2013 1 Corinthians 12,14 \u2013 Romans 12, Ephesians 4.\u00a0 One such gift is a \u2018missionary gifting\u2019. This comes with a cocktail of gifts that often include the ability to proclaim the gospel in a cross cultural setting.\u00a0God does not give this gift to everyone!<\/p>\n<p>A person with this gift\/calling will often become highly conscious of what God is doing around the world.\u00a0 He\/she may gravitate towards a particular people group or language.\u00a0 They usually have a facility to connect with people of other ethnicities and languages.\u00a0 They may also have an aptitude to learn languages or at least a strong desire to persevere in this regard.\u00a0Also, they are usually strong people, submitted to the Lord\u2019s power that becomes harnessed strength! \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But, what if God has given that gift and COVID has seemingly put the brakes on the expression of that gifting? All travel has been curtailed postponing participation in a visioning trip!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here are some tips that may be helpful:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Become involved in service with your local church<\/li>\n<li>Tell your pastor\/missions committee members about your desire to serve.\u00a0It is extremely beneficial to have your church walk alongside you in this journey. This makes a world of difference since it provides moral, prayer and financial support.<\/li>\n<li>Investigate what local cross-cultural ministry efforts your church or other ministries are doing that you can be a part of.<\/li>\n<li>Ask someone you respect spiritually to be your mentor. My mother continues to mentor women at in her golden years at 91.<\/li>\n<li>Share your desire with your small group, or a group of friends so that they can support you in prayer. This will help to make your journey real.<\/li>\n<li>Read biographies\u00a0of renowned missionaries like Hudson Taylor, Lillias Trotter, Jim Elliott.<br \/>\u2018<em><strong>We felt like Grasshoppers<\/strong><\/em>\u2019 by Dick Anderson is a good place to start.\u00a0 Or, pick up a copy of \u2018<em><strong>Operation World<\/strong><\/em>\u2019\u2018 by Jason Mandryk &amp; Patrick Johnstone, then begin praying \u2013 especially for those countries that interest you.<\/li>\n<li>Research countries where you feel drawn to serve.<\/li>\n<li>Connect with former missionaries.<\/li>\n<li>If possible, take a \u201cKairos\u201d or \u201cPerspectives\u201d Course. Many persons have shared how pivotal these Courses have been in their call and preparation for serving.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Following these tips will keep your spiritual heart strong and pulsating, and will \u201cfan into flame the gift given you\u2026\u201d\u00a0 (2 Timothy 1:6).\u00a0 You might look back at this time of waiting and say; \u201cThank you Lord for the extra time I had for preparing to serve you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;2_5&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221;
