Third Culture Kids Resources | Africa Inland Mission
Welcome!
Amanda Rumbaugh
Third Culture Kid Care Coordinator
Africa Inland Mission – US Headquarters
My TCK story began at age 12 when my family and I began preparations to move to Honduras to serve at a rural mission hospital. When I graduated from high school, I returned to the United States to attend college, where I developed a love for residence life and a newly focused passion to serve other third culture kids. I spent the next seven years working at Black Forest Academy in Germany, first in the dorms and then in the classroom. As the TCK Care Coordinator for AIM, my mission is to ensure that all of our children are supported, cared for, and prayed for from the moment their own TCK stories begin.

Africa Inland Mission – US Headquarters
It was during my teenage years at a church in the mountains of Virginia that I first learned of missions and felt a call to serve as a missionary. During my college years as I studied nursing, I met my husband, Steve, who also felt called to the mission filed. On our second anniversary, we traveled to Kenya to spend two years serving at Rift Valley Academy, and we ended up staying for most of the next 30 years. We have raised our three children in Kenya and have walked through many aspects of raising our own TCKs. Throughout the years, we thoroughly enjoyed caring for, supporting, teaching, and loving the TCKs that attended RVA. During my time at RVA, I served in a variety of roles such as a nurse, dorm parent, mentor, and the admissions director striving to support the families serving all over Africa. It is exciting to take this next step and join the Member Care department TCK care team of AIM and support AIM families. While serving as the assistant to the TCK Care Coordinator, I will primarily focus on spiritually and emotionally supporting the upper high school and young adult TCKs.
