OUTREACH TEAMS

Serve for 2-3 years
AIM Outreach Teams are not short-term missions. They are designed to equip you for a lifetime of cross-cultural ministry. Come with an open heart, open mind, and a willingness to be used by God for His glory. Join teammates from various backgrounds and cultures to make a lasting impact among an unreached people group and at the same time, have your life impacted as well. Be humbled. Be stretched. Be enriched. But, most importantly, be a learner. This is what it means to be a part of an Outreach Team.

TIMO TEAMS

TIMO stands for Training In Ministry Outreach. TIMO Teams run two to three years and are designed to train new cross-cultural workers. Team members are placed on Gospel-centered teams from the global church and are mentored by experienced team leaders through an on-site training program, helping them to learn how to plant a reproducing church in a cross-cultural context.

TIMO provides a foundation for a lifetime of ministry. We do not expect people to come fully formed, but rather to come with a learner’s attitude. TIMO seeks to provide a safe environment in which to take risks, learn and try new things, and build new relationships.

Our hope is that team members will leave the program with a heart for cross-cultural church planting, equipped to plant reproducing churches wherever God calls them.

FOCUS TEAMS

FOCUS Teams are designed to zero in on a particular people group or ministry. Team members are placed on a team of somewhat experienced colleagues with a leader to provide direction and vision.

Some previous ministry experience is expected for FOCUS team members as FOCUS teams are not designed to train new cross-cultural workers, but rather to allow experienced workers to join a team that continues to learn and grow together.

FOCUS team curriculum is set by the team leaders and varies from light, medium, to heavy. Teams run a minimum of two years and have flexible starting points, allowing team members to join a team even after its initial launch. As planting churches is a long-term endeavor, FOCUS teams are intentionally inviting members to stay on until the job is done.

GO TOGETHER

Mission outreach and church planting is tough, so to have a group of fellow sojourners standing with you in the ups and downs of cross-cultural life and ministry is huge. Teams bring together men and women with different gifts and abilities, foster independence, and bring synergy to the work at hand. Africa Inland Mission has developed a team approach that enables men and women who may be new to missions to be equipped through hands-on, in-the-thick-of-it learning while they serve among their host people group. God has used AIM Outreach Teams both to shape long-term workers for His kingdom and to transform lives of African men and women for eternity.

LIVE AS LEARNERS

Learning is a central part of our outreach strategy. Recognizing that cross-cultural church planting and missionary outreach isn’t something most Christians are formally equipped for, AIM makes learning a central part of each outreach team. Through the years, we’ve found that entering a host culture as learners can really open doors for relationships, as teams learn from and depend on their hosts for learning language and the ins and outs of day-to-day life. You don’t need to be a missions expert to serve as part of an AIM Outreach Team. You need to love Jesus, love people, and be ready to take on the challenges that come with living and serving cross-culturally in some hard places. We believe God can and does use ordinary people – Christ followers who desire to share His love with the nations – to establish His church.

“If I hadn’t had a team, I would have gone home in like three days.”
CALEB, REFLECTING ON HIS TWO-YEAR TEAM EXPERIENCE IN LESOTHO

TEAM LEADERS

Godly servant leaders are such a central part of any outreach. The primary qualification of an individual for service is their own brokenness, offered to Jesus, the gracious healer of hearts and lives. We are looking for humble sinners whose lives allow Jesus’ light to shine so that He gets all the glory. (2 Cor. 4:7). Team Leaders know that their competence to serve is not their own, but comes from Christ (2 Cor. 3:5). If you are a Christian leader with at least two years of fruitful ministry experience and some cross-cultural experience, we’d love to talk to you about leading an AIM Outreach Team.

TEAM MEMBERS

They are a family in place of those that are far away. They are a church where there is none. They are a community of people who understand one another—where they have come from, and why they are there. This is why we do team. As AIM works among some of the hardest-to-reach peoples and places, we start and finish better when we do it together. And in the middle, where the triumphs and trials of ministry in Africa play out, we share the burden every bit as much as we share the vision.

Decades of Experience.

Years of Planning.

One Purpose.

AIM Outreach Teams have been defined by decades of experience of planting teams among Africa’s unreached people groups. Our teams are well thought out, planned years in advance, and modeled after scripture. It is because of this groundwork that we are able go to the hard-to-reach places with the sole purpose of furthering the gospel of Jesus Christ.
