Training:

The African Mobilisation Hub Training Champion has spent considerable time identifying various training programs that are presently active in the formation of African Mission Partners. These training programs are regionally distributed across the continent of Africa. We are looking to expand our list of recommended programs and would welcome your input. The purpose of this page is to aid the potential AMP in the selection of a program that will equip him/her for ministry among the unreached peoples of Africa. (Note: This information is for informational purposes only.)

The assessment that we have used when considering these programs include a consideration of the following :

Logistics

  • Intake criteria?
  • Graduation criteria?
  • Length of the training?
  • Accessibility? (Geographic, Linguistic, Cost, Local training value, Sustainability, etc.?)

Level One…AMP Reaction to the training (Levels 1-4 framework from Kirkpatrick)

  • Overall, was the training a valuable experience?
  • In what ways would they encourage or discourage this approach to training
  • What is their preferred learning style? How was that included in their training?.

Level Two…What has the AMP learned?

  • In what ways has the AMP increased in their:
    • Knowledge
    • Life skills
    • Character formation areas
    • Relational areas (both with God and others/community)
  • How was the training packaged? Primarily high context (African) or low context (Western)?
  • What comprises the training content? (relational engagement in Islamic contexts?)

Level Three…Behavior (Actual Application)

  • How has this training changed their approaches to cross-cultural ministry?
  • What are their perceived or actual hindrances to implementing change?
  • How has this training prepared them to birth DMMs in MUPGs? (Intentional multiplication)
  • How has this training equipped them to mobilize their sending/home church in actively participating in God’s mission to reach the unreached?

Level Four…Results

  • How has this training program helped them to achieve their hoped for outcomes? (expectations met?)
  • What long term fruit have they experienced as a direct result of their training experience?
  • How are they practically applying the training they have received?

(Reflection:  What is the dominant approach to cross-cultural training?)

  • Formal (purposed direction attached to a curriculum…classroom, institutional…)
  • Non-formal (purposed facilitation, coaching, internships, specific objectives for a set period of time…)
  • Informal (mentoring, life-long coming alongside, walking life together…)

The assessment of training is an on-going rather than static activity. Depending upon the availability of data, there is more information available for certain programs than for others. In the following links we try to remain as current as possible with our recommendations.
