Step 2: Action
Once you’ve thought through what the Lord has been revealing to you about yourself, the next step is to look at the changes you want to make. What stands out to you as an area you’d like to develop?
Often, when we set goals, objectives or ‘resolutions’ for ourselves, we fail to reach them. This can happen because our ideas are too big, ambitious or vague, or we don’t ask anyone to keep us on track.
As you look at where you hope to go from here, it will be helpful to make sure each goal is ‘SMART’:
Specific – think about what you want to accomplish, and what for – why is it important to you?
Measurable – how will you know when you reach it?
Achievable – be sure that the outcome is possible, with God’s help.
Relevant – what is most important to you? Do you care enough about it to work hard to achieve it?
Time-based – by when will you achieve what you’re setting out to do? Give yourself a realistic time-frame.
Now write it down
Again, it is important to keep track of what you’re doing at this stage. Think about the goals you’d like to work towards and about how you’re going to get there. The documents below may help you in tracking your progress. If you choose to use any of these, remember to save your work. And again, if you have another preferred method of recording what you’re doing, do use that instead.
