Daniel Baraka Nyamutali, Democratic Republic of the Congo
Shalom University, Bunia, DRC Master’s in Theology with Mission Emphasis
“The concentrated English course increased our abilities in reading and understanding literature written in English at an academic level, which has helped us cope with many of the books recommended to us.
The course of Christian Theology of Religions taught by the director of the program himself, Professor Keith Ferdinando, helped us to situate ourselves more clearly in the Christian evangelical position that we preach, that of Jesus Christ as the only way to salvation.
Seminars done on the Bible and mission showed the importance of the subject, through reading two recent key texts both looking at the same subject but from very different viewpoints. We considered the nature of mission; Old and New Testament models of mission; and missional hermeneutic theory. In fact the missional reading of the Bible was one of the elements which greatly contributed to our knowledge of mission. The choice of Abraham, of Israel, of twelve apostles and of Paul for the universal mission of God, and its implications played a motivating role for us.
Beyond academic knowledge, we also felt spiritually edified in the knowledge of God, the love that he has for his creation and his eternal vision which concerns the complete restoration of fallen humanity, into which he calls us and for which desires our participation.
In the light of this truth, I felt and feel indebted to God and wish to give Him the rest of my life and future ministry. In fact it is sure that I will either work in teaching in a biblical institution of my denomination, or I will work in the department of mission and evangelization of the same denomination to reinforce, initiate and establish the structure of mission to the unreached in conjunction with the churches.
In closing, I want sincerely to thank you, for the effort you are making for us. We are very grateful. Please continue to support us in prayer for the additional funds for our fees and scholarship. God is alive, and he will provide.”
