Before becoming missionaries, Peter and Catherine worked in Christian education – Catherine in schools and Peter in outdoor education and camping – whilst pursuing further studies. Their family grew with Makena’s arrival in 2006 and Keama in 2009.
In 2014, the Gitaus joined AIM and moved to Rwanda to run an existing AIM project – a youth leadership development program using camping and outdoor education. Catherine took on a role at a local school focused on supporting missionary kids, while Peter combined running the camping ministry with discipleship and mission mobilisation work within the Rwandan church. When Peter was offered an administrative position with AIM at their regional office in Kampala, Uganda, the family relocated there in 2022. Peter now serves as Regional Executive Officer, supporting AIM workers, partners and projects across the seven countries in AIM’s Central Region. Meanwhile, Catherine provides school counselling services at a local international school and is passionate about helping families understand and support their Third Culture Kids.
