Jambo! Hello,

Thank you for your prayers. I have had a really nice time travelling to Kenya and settling in with my friends from Bulgaria, the US, England, Taiwan and Germany. The eleven of us, (including Rado and I- the “desert sports team”) are very excited to see how God will use us in our placements after the 2 weeks of training in Kijabe. Tomorrow we leave to go to Kijabe, where we will be listening to speakers, doing seminars and having time to pray and journal our thoughts as we are eased into a cross-cultural setting. I feel the need to be praying for opportunities for us to serve the gospel in this setting, as I’m finding it hard.
The Kenyan staff at the guesthouse in Nairobi have been very kind and welcoming and it’s been a privilege to meet them and get to know them. I have been struggling with how well-off I am compared to all these Kenyans and how unwilling I am to put them before myself. I feel that I may need God’s help to overcome this barrier.
“Just walk around like you were born and raised here”, the receptionist said, “you’ll be fine”. Rado jokes, “I feel less and less like it’s OK to be walking around”, as we head out the door, 2 boys, 1 Australian, 1 Bulgarian and 3 girls, 2 Taiwanese and 1 German, the only light-skinned people in sight on a busy main road in Nairobi. It has been interesting to see a little bit of how people live and what society is like for lots of people in a big city in Kenya. While life may seem quite miserable for them in my eyes, I was reminded that our society does not understand the best way to live and that God’s good plan for human life is much more than just the material and whatever my idea of a good life is…
All-in-all, spirits are high here in Kijabe and I know that we will all learn so much from this amazing experience and know God in knew ways.
Thanks again for your support,
In Christ,
Ben
