Short Term – Discipleship & Evangelism among the Karimojong

Africa Inland Mission needs an individual to work alongside the Youth Coordinator for St. Phillip’s (Church of Uganda) as well as in other churches. The focus will be on discipleship of young women in many locations in the district of Moroto. This may be in schools, prison, orphanages or slums. With the goal to minister in deed and word to help set the Karimojong free from darkness and the bondage of destructive traditions.

Major tasks:

  • To learn language and culture sufficiently well to develop relationships.
  • To live in such a way that people are attracted to Jesus, receive Him and follow Him, and in turn live incarnationally within their own communities.                                                       
  • To develop styles and methods of discipleship that are effective and reproducible in Karamoja.
  • To help  mobilize churches to understand and carry out discipleship and evangelism.
  • To function as part of a team ministry supporting and encouraging team members.

Location:

Moroto District, Uganda

Duration:

Up to a year

Experience Required:

Solid Bible understanding and experience in sharing the gospel and discipling others in any setting.

Desired Experience:

Cross-cultural ministry, chronological Bible story telling. Training in ministry areas such as educational, child and youth outreach – a psychology or counseling background would be useful.

Personnel Characteristics Required:

Desire to disciple others in God’s Word.  To be teachable, flexible and trainable, team player, passionate about souls and Gospel living, persevering and willing and able to work in a remote area and difficult environment with few creature comforts.

Housing: 

Concrete or brick structure, water and electricity will depend on actual location.
