Former Australian missionary nurse Pat Whisson has been honoured with a hospital vehicle in her memory at the Kuluva Hospital in Uganda. The hospital is operated by the Church of Uganda and is where Pat served for many years. The project was funded by a financial gift in memory of Pat from her family in Australia following her passing to be with the Lord in February 2010. Some joint funding for the project was provided from an organisation in the Netherlands.

Pat was born in South Australia in 1924 and served with AIM from 1954 to 1982. Pat travelled to Africa by ship in 1954 along with fellow missionaries Edith Samuels and Coleta List. Coleta married Australian missionary Alan Checkley in Africa. Pat was assigned as a nurse to Kuluva

Uganda Hospital honours Pat Whisson from January 1954 to 1965. She served along side her dear friend Edith Samuels until 1970. In 1965 Pat was assigned to Arua and later served at Kagando hospital in Uganda. She was evacuated from Uganda to Kijabe in Kenya in April 1977. Pat returned to Uganda in October 1980 and retired to South Australia in December 1982.

Mr Eddyson Koro, Diocesan Treasurer in Ma’di West Nile Diocese said the new multi-purpose Toyota Hilux will help with movement of patients and also staff for outreach in the Health Sub-District of Upper Ma’di & Vurra area. The new vehicle will aid the dioceses in its mission “To carry out Jesus Christ’s mission of preaching, teaching, healing and nurturing God’s people to build a loving, caring and just community that faithfully worships the triune God”.

We will continue remembering Ms Pat Whisson for the tender heart and love shown to the people of West Nile, Arua Uganda.
